Demetria Lucas Fully Supports Black Gen X Women Gallivanting Around the World
"I intentionally use the word gallivant when I talk about the things that I do," Demetria says.
Honeys, when is the last time you frolicked for the fun of it? 👀
For Episode 10 of IT’S GOOD OVER HERE, Head Honey Felicia Pride sat down with OG blogger, author, podcaster, and world traveler Demetria L Lucas. Those of us who were tapped into the Black blogosphere days originally know her as “The Black Carrie Bradshaw!”
On this enlightening episode, Demetria shared her experience taking the leap to travel to the Motherland to find peace. Lucas’s viral and highly coveted global exploits under the hashtag #SEESOMEWORLD have thousands vying to join her on her next adventure.
Speaking of seeing some world, we especially leaned all the way in when she talked about her love for gallivanting. Chiiiile, what a wonderful word. What a wonderful life.
Demetria explained how she hustled a lot in her twenties and thirties, and that hustle mentality faded out once she entered her Honey era.
“If we're being transparent, I have a lot of guilt around not doing more. Because I'm a Gen X Black girl, I was raised [believing that] your worth is in your productivity, accolades, and salary,” Demetria admitted.
Now? Demetria has added living abroad in Ghana, reading in Portuguese, dabbling in photography, and more to her rich life catalogue. Living this kind of life inspired her to collaborate with her bestie to organize global trips for fellow Black women to just… be. Whether that’s visiting museums, boating, or going to the club!
“We’re not life coaching, Demetria explained. “There's no wellness. I'm not trying to improve your mental health. There is no therapy aspect to this. It is gallivanting!”
“I intentionally use the word gallivant when I talk about the things that I do, because sometimes there is no rhyme or reason—we’re just outside, experiencing, and enjoying… and that's it,” she added.
Period!
As Felicia always says, HONEY CHILE’s lofty mission is to “help Black women get free.” Y’all ready to come over here where it’s so good?
